The MUFICATA
Website and the Grouping committed to the accessibility of its
resources and services to all its users, regardless of the particular
tools they use to browse the web. The Website takes the issue of web
and e-learning accessibility seriously. There is a rolling programme of
updating content in accordance with the guidelines set out by the World
Wide Web Consortium Web Accessibility Initiative (W3C WAI).

Conformance Logos
The CONSEN Grouping's webpage satisfied the following checkpoints:
- Conformance Level "AAA" satisfied of W3C WCAG 1.0
- Our webpage tries to satisfy level AAA
- XHTML 1.0 code
- Following the recomendations of W3C, the source code satisfied the XHTML 1.0 standard code.
- CSS-2 code
- Following the recomendations of W3C, the source code of the styling
sheet used in this website, satisfied the CSS-2 standard code.
Technical Help
- Variable letter size and liquid design:
- The design of the Web page has been made using relative units, e.g.
the size of the text. Therefore the page will visualize correctly in
any resolution and the user will be able, if he/she has the option, to
vary the size of text. - Navigation bars and site map:
- The main navigation bar is always located in the same place and,
where necessary, a secondary navigation bar appears. User will always
have available all website pages and will be able to find details of
each page from the site map. - Breadcrumbs:
- The user always will know in what section/subsection they are in from the breadcrumbs line on each web page.
- Navigation using tab key:
- All content on this site should be accessible using the TAB and ENTER keys on the keyboard to navigate the whole site.
- Skipping menus:
- Those using text-only navigators or navigators that read the screen
can avoid having to read each page of the menu and submenu by using the
hyperlinks to skip sections and go directly to the content of the page. - Use of Standards:
- We have implemented the following standards; XHTML 1.0 for the code
of the web pages and CSS-2 to obtain the maximum separation between
presentation and content.
CONSEN works to:
Ensure the accessibility and affordability of information technology and the Internet.
Train
activists to use the Internet and the new technologies and media as a
tool for organizing, outreach, advocacy, learning and business.
Create
effective grassroots citizen, society and market action campaigns and
coalitions that link cyberspace activists with grassroots
organizations.
Accessibility information
One of the key goals of the redesign of the CONSEN EEIG web site was to improve accessibility.
A number of accessible design elements have been added, including:
Text navigation elements. No images are used to create navigation bars
The ability to easily change the text size of the pages
A visible link at the top of each page to allow users to easily jump over navigation links and go directly to page content
Images
We
have decided to use blank alt attributes where images are used only for
decorative or layout purposes, including photographs of people. Text
equivalents have been provided where images contain content.
Users reliant on text alternatives are encouraged to email the web team if you would like us to revise this approach.
Tables
We
still have a significant number of users accessing the site with
browsers that are not capable of handling the layout properties in
Cascading Style Sheets. As a result, tables have been used for page
layout.
Layout tables all have summaries of the form "Layout table
for...". Users reliant on table summaries are invited to email the web
team if you would like us to revise this approach.
Where structural
tables have been used (mainly on the prospective and current students
pages), table headers have been provided and these have been associated
with columns and rows using the scope attribute.
Cascading Style Sheets
Cascading
Style Sheets have been implemented in manner that will allow users to
turn off or override our styles and still be able to read the page
content.
Relative sizes have been used for fonts and most other
attributes (table widths, etc.). Padding and margins around some
elements are given absolute values.
Structural markup
Throughout
the site, structural markup has been used. Page headings and
sub-headings are indicated by the use of the header elements h1, h2, h3
etc. Important items have been highlighted with the use of strong or
em, and lists have been marked up using ul and li.
Scripting
All
use of scripting is on the server side, so users can turn off
JavaScript or other client side technologies and still gain full access
to the content on the site.
Form labels
Where
forms have been used, labels have been explicitly associated with input
elements. For instance, the label "Enter search terms" has been created
and associated with the search input box.
